Jon Stevenson is an American filmmaker known for his distinct psychological thrillers and character-driven storytelling. Growing up in Denver, Colorado, Stevenson was drawn to filmmaking early on, influenced by his father, a local news videographer. After attending Colorado Film School, he co-founded a multi-million dollar commercial production company, before eventually shifting his focus to narrative and documentary filmmaking. Stevenson has numerous credits as a Director, Cinematographer, Writer, Editor, and Actor. His multi-faceted skillset provides a unique 360 degree perspective of production, post-production, and the creative process.
Stevenson gained significant recognition with his 2020 film Rent-A-Pal, a thriller that explores isolation and obsession through a retro video-dating service. The film, starring Wil Wheaton, was praised for its unsettling atmosphere and earned a cult following despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Rent-A-Pal was distributed through IFC Midnight, and its success led to several accolades including Best Screenplay (Grimmfest 2020), Best Director (FilmThreat Award This!) Best Motion Picture Nominee (Sitges 2020), and Directors to Watch (Sunset Film Circle Awards), solidifying Stevenson’s reputation in independent horror cinema. He is currently in development on several new projects in the horror, thriller and sci-fi genres.
